Finally, most of the bears have begun to enter the "winter sleep"!

About two weeks have passed since the start of 2011, and most of the brown bears in the animal barn are sleeping. I can't show you the situation because I refrained from taking pictures of the bears at the moment so as not to stimulate the brown bears who have started to sleep too much, but today the brown bears seemed to be sleeping calmly and preparing their beds by fiddling with straw a little. Today, we are very busy removing the snow that has fallen since last night, and we are clearing the roof of the animal barn, but if we do not do this properly, the melted snow will flow into the animal house and wet the precious bedding of the brown bears. Also, you can see what looks like a silver T-shaped tube at the foot of the photo, which is a ventilation opening, and it plays an important role such as listening to the breathing of sleeping brown bears and adding straw, so it is difficult to get buried in the snow, so I remove snow frequently. When the snow removal was over and the bears were sleeping, the warm sunlight came in in the extreme cold, and when it was a little softer, the goats Yuki (photo, left) and Atsuko (photo, right) came to check on the situation. Spring is still a long way off, but the bears at Bear Mountain are steadily building up strength for < (^^) 2011 season>

Winter Kuma

What does a winter zookeeper do? It's that time of year when such questions come up. At Bear Mountain, we have brown bears actually do "winter sleeping" under the theme of ecology closer to nature. In fact, brown bears are mysterious animals. Currently, we are not feeding them at all, and we are focusing on creating a sleeping environment by monitoring the bears' metabolism slowing down. Some bears appeal to themselves, saying, "I'm hungry!", but this is a demon in the heart. For that reason, I will do my best to make a bed. ↑ A bunch of straw used for sleeping. When it comes to 18 horses, it's not half the amount and it's heavy! ↑ A board is installed on the door for light shielding. On the right is the room with the straw. ↑ Expected newcomer Moko. I was transferred to Sahoro in early autumn and experienced winter for the first time. After this, I glanced at the straw and reacted as expected (laughs) ・・・ After about an hour, it became quiet, so I looked at it and found that the straw had been collected in one place and calmed down on it. I didn't shoot it so as not to surprise them, but it felt like we were lying on the futon. A bear that has never seen or touched a straw builds a nest without being taught by anyone. It's amazing, isn't it? It's hard to be a zookeeper in winter, but I keep the movements of the bears all to myself (^ dish ^) ↑ When you sleep in earnest, your respiratory rate is measured and recorded as valuable data. On the right, the water in the animal barn has frozen, so I'm carrying hot water (laughs) Happy New Year, everyone! [Breeding: Kurokawa]

Bear Mountain Forest Nature Tour Coverage

For the first time in a long time, Sahoro was clear. Today, I was interviewed for the February issue of the free magazine Chai of the Tokachi Mainichi Shimbun. By the way, what is [Bear Mountain Forest Nature Tour]? I think there are many people who think. As the name suggests, "Bear Mountain Forest Nature Tour" is a new program that allows you to walk on snowshoes in the Bear Mountain Forest while the park is closed. It's ♪ a lot of fun not only to feel the brown bears, but also to take a walk on the fluffy snow Isn't it exciting just to think about invading the forest of Bear Mountain, which is absolutely inaccessible in the summer? Going back to the topic, we held a tour for the February issue of Chai. Inside the double doors like Jurassic Park. This is what the promenade looks like from a brown bear's point of view. A standing tree with markings marked with explanations on the bear-watching bus. 40 cm of snow, even a tall guide with a height of nearly 180 cm still has claw marks in the upper position. On the way back after getting used to snowshoeing, walking on fluffy fresh snow seemed to be a lot of fun. Whether you've experienced Bear Mountain or not, please feel free to join us. [Bear Mountain Forest Nature Tour] Period: Until the end of February 2011 Time: 2 hours between 10:00 and 14:00 Price: 2,100 yen (including snowshoe rental) Target: Those who are energetic enough to walk for 2 hours Reservation required (until 16:00 the day before)

Bear Mountain is in the middle of winter!

Ladies and gentlemen, we are sorry. I'm Takahashi, a former zookeeper of Joyner Love. As a guide to guide you through Bear Mountain in winter, I decided to help out, and I haven't seen the bears in a long time. So let me give you a recommendation. First of all, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the lack of snow this year! At last, it is becoming a full-fledged snowy scene. However, the temperature is high for bears! In the end, the minimum temperature this morning was about 8 degrees, and after dawn it did not reach 0 degrees, but it snowed with a lot of moisture. Bears, I won't sleep with this!! Well, even if you don't like it, the cold wave will come, so you have to be a little patient. After that, let's go to the photos, not my puns. There's one in the aisle, do you understand? It's a little sexy to say that it's a sigh, but it's the heat of the breath that the bear exhales. My breathing rate hasn't dropped yet, so I'm like this. Therefore, the floor of the aisle is also covered with thin ice, and it looks like a skating rink! It's a bit of an unimaginable world, but it's like being in a refrigerator. And this time, for some reason, there were many cases where I just couldn't take a picture of my eyes. Especially since my digital camera is cheap, the shutter (and do you say digital camera?) There was a two-second pause between pressing and actually importing the video. It's dark inside the barn, so I wonder if the bears don't like the strobe light. I thought. When it's the green season when everyone comes, it's perfectly fine on that street. The bears are so smart that I wonder if they've learned to look away for two seconds like my camera. Even humans can feel the gaze when the lens is pointed at them. I think that's the case with animals, but what do you think? However, there are a few photos that I can show you somehow. One of them was taken from the bottom, and I was able to take a picture of it under the chin. In a legendary manga about a certain photography club (in the picture, it's called "Light Painting Club" ah, the age is revealed), it's called "Aori no Victory". It's interesting, so let's post it as it is. The fact that there are many photos of joiners is a personal preference. It's exactly the same reason why Kurokawa-kun, the breeder, uses a lot of photos of Misumi. Suimasen with an inside joke. Kurokawa-kun, I'm glad that Misumi is getting better (it's okay when you go to bed and wake up afterwards, but it's okay to move well...). Misumi is a nervous bear, so for reasons we don't know (I think it's mental), the tension was very low in the second half of this season, and Kurokawa-kun and others, who knew Misumi of yesteryear (even though she is still a young player), were very worried. It was good, it was good.

Sarah's hate season?

For husky dogs who don't like heat, winter is the season they've been waiting for! However, Sarah is not good at winter. Because in winter, there are many people who come with long boards and make the sound of gashan, gashan, gashan. And there are those who appear like a gale, with a squeak of snow. - I really want to be Nadenade like Moko, but Sarah hides in the hut. We are waiting for you from the back of the hut with a large body curled up. * The photo shows the state of autumn

Chai × i MiEV Coverage

Sahoro still needs snow. The brown bears have not yet entered the winter camp. Is it around the beginning of the year this year? I anticipate that. By the way, today i MiEV came to Sahoro for an interview with Chai, a free magazine published monthly by the Tokachi Mainichi Shimbun. The driver is the deputy editor-in-chief of Chai. From Obihiro to Sahoro, which is located about 60 km from Obihiro, even on snowy roads & long distances, he was able to drive without any worries. I use a lot of electricity with an indoor heater, but I came to Sahoro on one full charge. This article will be published in the February issue of Chai (January 25, 2011). To all Kachimai subscribers living in the Tokachi area, If you can get it at the installation location, please look forward ♪ to it After the interview, I asked for a test drive of i MiEV (゚-^v) The slope in front of the hotel is surprisingly steep. It is so powerful that you can't imagine it from its compact and cute appearance, and you will be surprised (no? ゚)ノ It climbs more smoothly than my car's mini car (with turbo). A car that runs by charging with a household outlet. In the near future, if all your cars are electric, you will see a row of cars to charge after arrival. It was an interview that made me think that I have to continue to evolve as a host.

Can you give me a hint? Clinton's weight change

It's been a week since it closed, and Sahoro is changing from autumn to winter. By the way, the results of the brown bear weight guessing quiz announced on 12/1. The correct answer has not yet been announced, but we will inform you of Clinton's weight change, which is not eligible for the quiz. Spring (4/11) ⇒ 239kg and Autumn (10/31) ⇒ 308kg There was a change of 69kg. So, what were your predictions? I hope you found it helpful. I'm (^○^) looking forward to seeing how many people will be able to put on their weight this year

Bear Mountain Fall

It's the season when the cold in the mornings and evenings is familiar (>). <) Recently, the temperature has not risen much during the day, and I feel nostalgic for the summer heat, but the bears of Bear Mountain are free from the heat and roam around in search of food for the winter. This is Canta's favorite (^-^)! Maybe it's because I spend most of the day around here and eat a lot of food, but I'm a little overweight lately?! The physique is unparalleled in Bear Mountain! It's like taking an open-air bath. Next up is Misumi! Recently, it has been difficult to see them because they have been stuck in the yabu, but today the pleasant weather increased their appetite, so they were looking for food without staying in the yabu too much. It's kind of like autumn (^. ^) O-ma-ke In order to manage the health of the bears in Bear Mountain and the safety of the park, the jeep will continue to drive on the roadless roads of Bear Mountain, which is full of nature! Accumulated Photos

It's been a long time since I've updated it. Photos of salmon events and recent parkscapes have accumulated, so I would like to upload them little by little. The new arrivals Moko & Hinata seem to have gotten used to the environment of the animal house and sub-paddock. I haven't fully grasped the personalities of the two horses yet, but I would like to introduce them a little. Moko is 8 years old and is Clinton's son. The whole body is black and has shiny hair. It is characterized by its sweet ears, and when you look at it like this, it looks just like your parent's Clinton! Hinata, 9 years old, Santa and his twin brother, were born in the wild and lived on a bear ranch under the protection of Noboribetsu Bear. They like butterbur and acorns, and if you give them to them, they will eat them. Say hello to Santa across the gate. We butted our noses and smelled it. The two animals used to live together at the Noboribetsu Bear Ranch, but they lived apart because they would tag up and attack other bears. For the first time in years? Did the two of them remember the reunion? He was a little breathless and excited, but he didn't show any aggressiveness and exchanged greetings for tens of seconds. Santa (back) staring at Hinata (left) & Moko (right) Across the fence, they are "matchmaking" with the native bears, but both Moko and Hinata are still busy sniffing the paddock. I hope (^^) you will get used to it quickly [Breeding: Ito]

Autumn salmon gift bonus

On the last day of the three-day holiday, after giving him autumn salmon, I also gave him a whole watermelon that I had frozen. Kouji reacted well♪ He held the entire watermelon that had fallen in his left forelimb, and moved backwards with his three legs to a place where he could easily eat it. When I bit into the watermelon, holding it carefully, it cracked open. Look at this satisfied face (*^-^) It's as if it's saying "Yumah!!". Now, what about the watermelon smell? He smells it and visits Santa. From the edge of the pond, it roars, "Give it to me too!" Then, while threatening, he scooped up a watermelon from the edge and copied it. It's so delicious I'm drooling. I just ate salmon and I can't stop drooling! ! The director was surprised by Kouji's behavior and said, ``This is the first time I've seen Kouji move backwards with three legs.'' It was a bonus of the autumn salmon present that showed valuable behavior. He holds it carefully with his big hands.

The bears didn't react yesterday, but today was a great success y( ̄ー ̄)y We'll be doing it again tomorrow from 13:00! Get Joyner today too! Autumn Salmon Present Day 1

It’s finally three days off! For three days starting today, we will be holding an event called giving autumn salmon to brown bears. On the first day, Kouji, Hirotake, and Santa receive autumn salmon as presents. If you release salmon in front of Hirotake, they won't show much interest. Are you feeling unwell today? Next is Santa on the rocks. It holds the salmon in place with its forelimbs, and at first it makes a gesture as if it is stroking it with its claws. It's like taking scales off! ? After that, he started biting while holding it with great care. Santa takes a bite from the gills of the salmon and munches on it. Then, did you hear the salmon information? Joyner has arrived. But I can't steal the salmon that Santa, who is stronger than me, is eating. Joyner just watches from a distance. This sense of distance is painful. When I suddenly turned my attention to the pond, I saw Hirotake chasing the salmon with his face in it. I watched it for a while, but with disappointing results (>_<;) Joyner was playing with catching salmon yesterday, and Hirotake, who is an expert at catching fish. B☆B Return by promenade course

B☆B took a bear watching bus to Bear Point and got very close to a brown bear. I returned while looking for brown bears on the promenade course. The weather was nice, and B☆B's trademark mohawk sparkled in the sunlight, making him even more manly. In fact, he came to Bear Mountain this time for an interview with ``212 Monogatari.'' ``212 Monogatari'' is a 10-year program that will visit all 212 municipalities in Hokkaido at the time the Nippon Ham Fighters moved to Hokkaido. This is a huge project, and one year's worth of footage will be released on DVD. Shintoku Town is scheduled to be included on next year's DVD, so I'm looking forward to it with great anticipation. There are also meet-and-greets with local fans in the towns we visit. B☆B is known for its enthusiastic fan service and is said to be the best mascot of the 12 teams. When I asked her to take a photo for my blog, she happily agreed, and she posed for me many times. We're all the same bears, so I'm looking forward to the day when we can visit again. B☆B Petit Information Usually, his mohawk is black, but for Sunday's appearance, it was orange. And on special occasions, she sometimes wears ``white,'' and even a regent or afro version.

How to use your limbs

As I previously introduced in ``Bears are very dexterous.'' Brown bears are skillful in using their large hands (forelimbs). When they play in the water, they use things like tree branches like toys, and I always see them placing them on the back of their hands. This time, I took a rare photo of him holding it between his fingers, and when I thought, ``He's grabbing the branch with what humans would call a palm,'' he found that he was supporting it with his hind legs. Bears are dexterous, and their limbs spread out a lot, so their bodies are flexible. Starring: Santa
