White wagtails have started nesting on bass this year as well. On June 15th, there was one egg, but the next day there were two, and the next day there were three! I didn't know that white wagtails lay eggs in batches rather than all at once, so this was a surprising discovery ゜Ro゜;) I took a break from moving car number 3 today. Puddles of footprints

Today in Sahoro, the weather continues to be gloomy, with light rain coming and going. In this morning's newspaper, there was an article saying, ``There has been a lot of rain in Hokkaido since the beginning of June, and the average rainfall at 22 major observation points up to the 14th is 1.8 times higher than normal,'' and ``2.2 times higher in Obihiro.'' The footprints left in the park are also filled with water. After a rainy day, you can have fun finding footprints like this one. Even though it's raining, the brown bears are still moving around the park as energetically as usual. On such a rainy day, you can enjoy the bear watching without getting too wet by riding on the bear watching bus. Umbrellas are also lent out for free, so even tourists who don't have an umbrella can come with peace of mind.(^ー^)y Well, just like in the previous episode, we'll be showing you a picture of a dog walking (side-on version) so you can feel the early summer.

A signboard near the Bear Watching bus stop. [No entry] Note: There will be snakes! ] "Are there really snakes?" I was wondering, but... there really were. Aodaisho. The driver of the bear watching bus received sighting information that ``the bear had just gone into the lift shed'' and when he opened the door... there he was. Do they prefer to rest in a cool hut? It seems that the blue daisies are also in the season of love, just like the brown bears. Come to think of it, there are signs posted on mountain trails that say, ``Beware of brown bears,'' but they are put up because brown bears have actually been spotted. There are also many unusual signboards that can't be seen in the city along the mountain passes, so we recommend taking a drive while looking for them. Please slow down, take your time, and drive safely!

Even though it's a bear, it's a dog

Bear Mountain's oldest dog, 26 years old. Even though it's a bear, it's a dog. She has long legs and a slender body with a high waist. Below the endpoint, a dogfish was eating snacks on the ground while stretching out its proud long legs. As I was looking at how cool he looked, he started walking in the direction of the bus route, so I switched to video and started filming. Although they are walking slowly, each step is long, so they are moving at a surprisingly fast speed! As soon as I stopped because it was difficult to see from behind, he stood up and showed me his markings, so I went to REC again! Frog diary part 3

It's raining today and it's a little chilly, making it an easy day for the bears. Have the Bear Point nerds grown a lot? ? Which one...isn't there? I wondered where all the otamas had gone, so I asked another zookeeper and was told that they had been eaten by dragonflies (dragonfly larvae). It will become a fine dragonfly. Creatures that prey on others in order to survive, what do they think about as they spend their days? There used to be a lot of point geeks. Although they have become food for other creatures to survive, there are still many otama in the water puddles in the park. Weak creatures try to pass on their genes by giving birth to many children. Good luck otama! Well, in addition to grasshoppers and otama, there were many young grasshoppers in the grass at the point. It's hard to see, but there's a small grasshopper on the grass. White corn... no.

There are two goats next to the parking lot. Yuki-chan (left) and Atsuko (right). Both are female, but Atsuko has horns. It's easy to tell them apart♪ Now, Hokkaido is starting to offer a lot of seasonal food. Asparagus season is from late May to mid-June. The other day, I visited a farmer in Furano for an interview. The farmer grows not only green but also white, and as you can see, they are wonderfully thick. I washed freshly picked white asparagus with water and ate it raw, and it was ``sweet and juicy.'' The roots are especially crunchy and delicious! ! ! ! The water seemed to be spilling out from the cross section I bit into. Sahoro Resort Hotel is also using green asparagus for dinner this month, so when you come to Bear Mountain, we recommend a great value accommodation plan that includes a promenade! Back to the topic, have you ever seen goat teeth? It is shaped like a grain of corn and looks like white corn. What do you think? Can't you see? Reading at Barepoint?

Starting this year, the number of Bear Point exhibition corners has increased and the content has been enriched. There is a variety of things to see, including the experience of observing brown bears in winter, what they usually eat, and a replica of the position-detecting transmitter they wear around their necks. The space next to the pond is stocked with everything from reference books to picture books about bears. There is a bench so you can relax and enjoy reading. By reading the book and seeing a real bear, you may be convinced or make new discoveries! Well, I received a "thank you card" from the first graders of Shintoku Elementary School, whom I invited during the pre-opening. Each person sent a picture of a bear and a comment, and all of the cards made me smile. The thank you cards we received are also displayed in the exhibition corner. This year, a new exhibition space has been created next to the pond. Please take a look.

MIX is next

Do you all remember the story about MIX last time? ? Since then, Santa and Kouji have continued to mix in the sub paddock. Santa occasionally made threatening noises and seemed to be following Kouji's behavior with his eyes, but Kouji didn't really care and seemed to be taking it easy. This is an adult reaction. <Santa follows Kouji's actions with his eyes> At one point, the wrestling game got heated and they even got up and pushed each other, but they soon calmed down and from then on, each of them took a bath, rubbed each other's backs, and did not interfere with each other. <I witnessed Kouji's back rub, and he immediately stopped bathing and Santa also started giving back rubs> A few days after starting the sub paddock MIX, there was no threat, and after sniffing and saying hello, they bathed separately, looked outside and rested, and seemed relaxed. After observation and discussion, we decided that the mix of Santa and Kouji is now complete, and we are currently starting an arranged meeting with Canta. [Breeding: Ito]

Energetic New 1st Grader

I previously talked about how we invited the first graders of an elementary school in Shintoku Town to Bear Mountain the day before the opening on April 29th, but in reality the event was canceled on the day of the event because Kusashi Minami Elementary School had closed classes due to influenza. But today, the students came to Bear Mountain as part of their class. Were you looking forward to it? Anyway, I'm full of energy! ! First, get on the bear watching bus and get close to brown bears! ``It was there...'' ``There were two of them here too.'' ``What's that dog's name?'' Huh? Two birds? ? You haven't learned how to count yet. It's not a dog. It's a bear. I will move on while saying such things. I was still excited when I arrived at Bear Point. Even though the teacher scolds him, saying, ``You can't run,'' he can't sit still as the bears look behind the glass. The Hirotake in front of me is an expert at catching fish. Everyone is yelling and telling me, ``Look, there's a rainbow trout right under my feet!'' This time I observed it from the promenade course. Then, right below the promenade, there was a roaring sound like ``gwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatu'' (ノ゜?゜)ノ Apparently, a wrestling match had begun. The children, who had been energetic until just a moment ago, suddenly became quiet at the sound of the sound, and even the teacher stepped back and said, ``It's amazing!'' At first, the energy you said about ``sumo wrestling with a bear'' went away, right? Orikou listened to the teacher and headed home, her face straining as if she was feeling nervous. Wild brown bears also live in Shintoku Town. Although it was a short time, all of our staff members hope that what we learned from what we saw today will be put to good use and that no accidents will occur. Even so, the brown bear's growl was tens or hundreds of times more effective than the teacher's thunder. It might be interesting to try it as a ringtone ( ̄ー+ ̄)

Matchmaking and MIX

picture? ! What does bear matchmaking do? You who thought...(@△@)/ There is also arranged marriage in the bear world. Simply put, meeting someone you know is called ``Omiai''! First, the bear is placed face-to-face in a limited space or cage, and the bear is made to recognize the other person through sight, smell, and hearing. At this stage, zookeepers observe the bears' compatibility with each other. Depending on the bear, the reaction varies, such as sniffing, banging on the door excitedly, making threatening sounds from its mouth, or simply falling asleep looking in a different direction as if it's not interested at all. The matchmaking continues for several days while checking the compatibility between the bears. (However, if we are not compatible, we may arrange an arranged meeting over several weeks to several months.) Once the arranged meeting is over, the next step is to have them live together in the same space (MIX). The most difficult decision is when transitioning from arranged marriage to MIX. In case of a fight, Jeep is always on standby to intervene. Currently, Santa from last year's Noboribetsu Bear Farm is meeting and mixing with old members of Bear Mountain. Santa, who is 8 years old, is a fast-moving bear who gives the impression of being young and energetic. I finished the MIX with Hirotake and am currently doing the MIX with Koji. We will also bring you the latest updates on MIX, so please look forward to it! [Breeding: Ito]
