The most commonly seen marking is when the animal rubs its back against a tree, but I took a close-up photo of it because it had its belly facing the tree, as if it were climbing. If you look closely, you can see that it seems to be sharpening its front claws with wood.
There are many standing trees in the park that have markings on their backs and claw marks. It's especially easy to spot when you're on a bear watching bus, so be sure to check for markings while looking for bears.
